The Home of the Brave Quilt Project is a grassroots effort to make and present a homemade quilt to the family of every soldier who has died in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The project was started in 2004 by Mr. Don Beld, a nationally known quilter and quilt historian of Redlands California.
From that beginning, it has become a nationwide movement with a coordinator for every state and is staffed entirely by caring volunteers. We are dedicated to honoring the memory of our fallen heroes and bringing comfort to their families. So far, more than 2000 quilts have been given to families across the nation.
The quilts we make use the Album Block pattern, inspired by quilts made during the Civil War. For more information about the history of the Civil War quilts, click on the History link in the menu bar above.
Here in Hawaii, so far we have lost 23 soldiers, sailors and Marines. Many quilters across the state have shown their support and joined the effort to make quilts their families. If you want more information or would like know how you can help, please contact the Hawaii State Coordinator. |
